Day 1 - Arrival

Shwedagon Pagoda

 

After refreshing, visit to the magnificent Shwedagon Pagoda, the most revered Buddhist temple in Myanmar. Although the origins of the pagoda are unclear, local legend states that the original structure was built 2500 years ago and then renovated several times until taking its current shape in the 15th century. The 8-sided central stupa is 99-metres-tall and gilded with gold leaf and is surrounded by 64 smaller stupas

Day 2 - Yangon


AM

Yangon City Tour

 

Start by the walk to Sule Paya in the middle of downtown. Along the way, pass by Strand Hotel, Mahabandoola Garden and Independence Monument. Reach Bogyoke Market, formerly known as Scott’s Market. This is Yangon’s best market for handicrafts and other goods.

After lunch, visit Kyaukhtatgyi Pagoda, home to a 70-metre long reclining Buddha. Continue to a local tea shop for a chance to experience an integral part of Burmese life: drinking tea! Select from an array of snacks and enjoy a coffee or tea. Next visit Kandawgyi Park, one of central Yangon’s greenest spots. After the visit, transfer to downtown’s vibrant Chinatown area. Continue with a walk toward Latha Street, stopping to visit a Chinese temple and local food shops making delicacies such as roasted duck.

Day 3 - Yangon - Bagan

Bagan City Tour

 

Visit to a traditional lacquerware workshop and observe the production of one of Myanmar’s best-known handicrafts. Continue to Ananda Temple, an architectural masterpiece and one of Bagan’s most beautiful temples.  From here, travel by horse cart for a tour passing Thatbyinnyu, the highest temple in Bagan, Dhammayangyi Temple, a massive temple noted for its remarkable brickwork, and Sulamani Temple. Wrap up the day with an unforgettable sunset over the plains from the upper terrace of one of the temples, then head back to the hotel for the evening.

Day 4 - Bagan

Begin today with a visit to the colourful Nyaung Oo Market where dozens of vendors come to sell their fresh produce and goods. This is a great opportunity to observe the daily lifestyle of the friendly locals. Continue to the neighbouring villages to learn about the local’s the traditional livelihood. Observe interesting process of creating poneyay gyi (pea powder paste) and see how local plum jam is made and packed. Resume the temple tour by visiting the glittering Shwezigon Pagoda, a prototype of later Myanmar stupas.

Continue to Shwe Hlaing. Explore this local village which is famous for its toddy palm trees. See how the ingenious farmers use the trees to produce everything from tables to sweet molasses and even strong wine. Visit Irrawaddy River awaits later in the afternoon. Begin by boarding a private boat for a cruise down the river, soaking in the scenery, and enjoying sunset along the way.

Day 5 - Bagan - Inle Lake

Visit to the Nyaung Shwe market where locals gather every morning to buy and sell fresh produce from the lake and its surroundings. Hop back on the trishaw and wind through quiet streets. Make a stop at the ‘tomato house’, a warehouse-like structure where the tomatoes are sorted and priced for sale. Then continue past some of the many monasteries and nunneries in town and take some photos. Then venture onto the lake via a private boat. Resume the tour with a visit to Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda.

Day 6 - Inle Lake - Mandalay

Visit to the morning market that attracts people from all over the lake’s shores who gather to buy and sell their wares- if you are lucky you may see Pa-Oh, Inthar and Shan people in their traditional outfits. From the middle of the lake, continue down a small canal leading to the Pa-oh village of In Dein. Explore the area on foot, strolling around the village and wander through the beautiful Alaung Sitthou area. Should time allow, we’ll stop at Inthar Heritage House to learn more about the history and culture of the lake’s indigenous people and enjoy a delicious coffee and cake (snack break not included).

Day 7 - Mandalay

Mandalay City Tour

 

Begin a sightseeing tour of Mandalay with a visit to Mahamuni Pagoda, over the years, has been covered with so much gold leaf that it now has an iconic ‘lumpy’ texture. Mandalay is well-known for its skilled craftsmen. While touring traditional workshops, learn more about the city’s cottage industries and observe the production of wood carvings, kalaga tapestries, and gold-leaf. Many of the techniques used to create these have remained unchanged for those used centuries ago to craft items for the Royal Court.

In the afternoon, continue the tour of Mandalay with a visit to Kuthodaw Pagoda, whose 729 marble stone slabs of Buddhist scriptures have earned it the title of ‘World’s Biggest Book’. Continue to Shwenandaw Monastery, the only remaining building from the 19th century Royal Palace. This grand teak building is known for its exquisite woodcarving. Then, head to the top of Mandalay Hill as the sun begins to set to enjoy magnificent views of the city and Irrawaddy River. Be sure to take some photos of this memorable setting.
